Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about importing, ratings, and how Episodey works.
- What is Episodey?
- A lean, episode-level TV tracker. Think of it as Letterboxd for television: follow shows episode by episode, see what airs next, and keep a tidy history of everything you have watched. It is free to use.
- Why did my old TV Time export import zero ratings?
- Because the TV Time GDPR export files do not contain any rating values. We import everything the export actually includes (your shows and the episodes you watched, with their dates), but there is simply no ratings data in those files to bring across. It is a limitation of the export, not of the import. Your watch history comes over in full.
- Why do some shows need adding manually?
- Episodey uses TMDB (The Movie Database) as its single catalog. If a show in your export is not on TMDB, or its TV Time entry cannot be matched to a TMDB show, we cannot pull it in automatically. In those cases you can search TMDB and add the show yourself. Adding the missing title to TMDB also helps, since everyone benefits from a better shared catalog.
- What does aggregate-count history mean for older watches?
- For some older or bulk watches, the export tells us how many episodes of a season you watched but not exactly which ones. When that happens we mark the earliest episodes of the season watched up to that count, in order, so your totals and progress line up. It is an honest reconstruction from the numbers available. If the specific episodes matter to you, you can always adjust them on the season page.
- Do I need an account?
- You can browse shows, search, and view seasons with no account. To track what you watch, keep an Up Next list, or import from TV Time, sign in. Sign-in is passwordless: a magic email link, or Google if you prefer.
- Is my import data private?
- Your TV Time export zip is parsed entirely in your browser. The file itself is never uploaded to our servers. We store only the resulting references (which shows and episodes you watched) against your account.
- How do I import from TV Time?
- Request your data export from TV Time, then head to the import page and drop in the zip. Everything is matched to TMDB and added to your library. Re-importing is safe: it will not create duplicates.
